Two golfing identitiesAdare has more than one golf story.
The village is associated with Adare Manor Golf Club and with the championship course within the Adare Manor estate. They are distinct golfing experiences within the same wider landscape.
That distinction matters for visitors. Adare’s golf culture did not suddenly appear because the Ryder Cup was awarded; local golf and club life form part of a much longer regional tradition.
Adare Manor Golf ClubA local club tradition.
Adare Manor Golf Club represents the community side of the village’s golf identity, while the estate’s championship course represents the international tournament side. Together they illustrate how local golf and elite golf can exist within the same place.
For visitors, the wider club landscape can provide useful context for understanding Irish golf beyond the Ryder Cup venue itself.
Tom FazioThe championship course was rebuilt for modern golf.
The Golf Course at Adare Manor was comprehensively redesigned by Tom Fazio, with every hole redesigned and reconstructed in 2016. The course follows the River Maigue through the estate and uses mature trees, rolling terrain and water as defining features.
The result is a course designed to operate at the highest level of championship golf while remaining integrated into the estate landscape.
The Ryder Cup2027 is a new chapter in the course’s story.
The Ryder Cup will be staged at Adare Manor from 13–19 September 2027, with competition from 17–19 September. It will be the centenary staging of the event and the second time Ireland has hosted the Ryder Cup after The K Club in 2006.
The event puts Adare into the same international sporting conversation as the world’s great championship venues, but the course remains rooted in the River Maigue landscape.
Golf & landscapeThe course is part of the estate, not separate from it.
One of the defining characteristics of Adare’s golf setting is the relationship between fairways, woodland, water and the wider estate. The course was created in harmony with the landscape rather than treated as an isolated sporting object.
That is worth noticing even for non-golfers: the golf course is another chapter in the long history of people shaping the Maigue valley.
The wider tripUse Adare as a gateway to Irish golf.
A Ryder Cup visitor can combine the tournament with golf elsewhere in County Limerick and neighbouring counties. The wider region contains established clubs, links and parkland courses, making it possible to build a golf itinerary around the event.
For international visitors, the best experience is often a balance: championship golf, local club culture, Irish landscapes and enough time away from the course to experience the communities around it.
